About the Yishuv

Yitzhar is a religious-Torani settlement on the top of the Samarian mountain ridge, south of Shechem.

The settlement was established on 22 Av, 5743 (August 1, 1983) as a Nahal settlement and was given over for civilian population on 18 Tamuz, 5744 (18 July 1984) by a ‘garin’ or group of families that established a community there.

The residents are nationalist Haredim, and some have ties with Chabad and Breslav Hasidim.

The Yitzhar Talmud Torah, “Ben Porat Yosef,” is where most of the children of the community study.

All public buildings, as well as earthwork, agriculture and paving the internal roads, are built and carried out based on a principle of exclusively using Jewish labor. The locals cultivate hundreds of acres west and north of the locality, and grow olives, vines and grain.Serving God is a central pillar in the life of the community and characterizes its cultural and community events as well as everyday life.
